Week 4 Mark 7 and Mark 8

February 2, 2020

Summary

The words of the gospel are the sermon.

The focus is who Jesus is and what he has done for us

Todays passage starts out with some conflict.  The people criticise his disciples. Jesus does not back down he makes the conflict worse. He is not trying to get along with some people this is quite evident.

Todays passage continues with the theme that the disciples are confused. The disciples are confused again and again.  Jesus puts the disciples on the spot “Who do you think I am”. Peter replies that Jesus is the Messiah.  He recognizes Jesus as the special one who is going to come and save the people. Jesus then explains that he will die and be raised again.  Peter having understood then shows that he does not understand anything.  Jesus then gives a clear challenge to all of us to take up his cross and follow him.

His disciples see him with Moses and Eliajah and the disciples see how special he is. The transfiguration is the realisation of who Jesus is

When Godś love seems far away we should,  keep pleading like the Caanite woman remembering how our Lord has promised to hear and help us.
