Summary
Hearing the Gospel of Mark, Part 3
The entire Gospel of Mark is being presented in Sunday worship, from
January 12 through March 1.
Try to imagine that you don’t know much about Jesus. Maybe you have read the Bible and heard about Jesus throughout your life. Maybe you haven’t. Either way, try to imagine that you are hearing the message like the first believers heard it almost two thousand years ago. A preacher has come to tell you about Jesus – who he was, what he did, what he taught, how people reacted to him, what happened to him.
I want to tell you about Jesus. I want you to know him.
Today the fifth and sixth chapters of Mark will be presented here. Here are some key passages:
“Jesus, Son of the Most High God! What do you want with me?”
“Go back home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how kind he has been to you.”
“If I just touch his clothes, i will get well.”
“My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your trouble.”
“Why all this confusion? Why are you crying? The child is not dead — she is only sleeping!”
“Little girl, I tell you to get up.”
“Where did he get all this? What wisdom is this that has been given him? How does he perform miracles?”
“When Jesus got out of the boat, he saw this large crowd, and his heart was filled with pity for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.
Everyone ate and had enough
The disciples were completely amazed because they had not understood the real meaning of the feeding of the five thousand; their minds could not grasp it
