Dear Members and Friends,
Our congregation is a multinational congregation which God has brought together from many parts of the world to Norway for a purpose. Our mission is “to bring people of different nations and denominations together and using the English language, empower them to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ” (ALC Mission Statement). An important part of serving God is sharing with each other the gifts which God has bestowed on us, our talents, our time and financial resources.
In October, our congregation will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. For 50 years God has blessed our congregation and our church and insured that our needs have always been met. This year our financial needs are especially great. Needed repairs and renovation to the church building and the parsonage have been higher than budgeted. Also higher electricity prices have resulted in higher than budgeted heating costs. Higher expenses mean that we must increase our offerings, if we want to continue offering the same activities and services. Our expenses have been running higher than income for most of this year, however, thanks to especially high income in June, our income and expenses through July are approximately equal. Still we have large financial commitments to meet before the end of the year.
Please, therefore, on the occasion of our 50th anniversary, we ask you to give an extra special donation to the church in addition to your regular offerings. The gift can be deposited directly into the church’s bank account number 5081.07.47827 or placed in the offering plate in any Sunday service. Remember gifts to the church are tax deductible in Norway up to 12,000 kroner per annum for those with taxable income.
Most importantly, remember that your gift is not only a gift to the church, it is a gift to God and a way of saying thank you for all the blessings that God has given you.
Yours in Christ,
The ALC Stewardship Committee, Alexander Lal, Chairman

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Matt. 7:7
Just think of all that we have been given! Most of us did not even ask to live in Norway, but here we are. We live in peace and in prosperity, with the fantastic natural beauty of this country all around us. And think of our church, where we come to find comfort and friendship, to hear God’s word being taught, and take in the music and the warm fellowship which we all experience Sunday after Sunday. The door is opened wide to all, when we knock. How thankful we are to be a part of this congregation and to have the privilege of worshiping in a building constructed 50 years ago by the hard labor of others, most we never knew, and kept up and maintained by our brothers and sisters in Christ through hard work, prayer, and continued giving as God has called us to give. What more reason do we need to give our part, so that not only we, but future generations will also take part in this wonderful gift which has been first given to us. How do we decide how much to give? Paul gives the Corinthian church several principles to follow: 1. Each person should follow through on previous promises (2 Corin. 8:10, 11; 9:3). 2. Each person should give as much as he or she is able (8:12; 9:6). 3. Each person must make up his or her own mind how much to give (9:7). 4. Each person should give in proportion to what God has given him or her (9:10).
