We're a congregation of over 30 nationalities, gathering in English every Sunday. Rooted in the Lutheran tradition, but genuinely open to everyone.
Lutheran, Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, Orthodox — or somewhere still figuring it out. We believe what unites us in Christ runs deeper than what separates our traditions, and we think that diversity is one of God's gifts to us.
Whether you're an American expat, a diplomat, a student, a refugee, or just passing through Oslo — you're welcome here.

Hello!
I'm Pastor Sherri L. Frederikson, and I'd love to welcome you to ALC. Whether you're visiting Oslo for a short time or settling in for the long haul, my hope is that you'll find a place to belong here.
I'm passionate about creating a community where faith comes alive in everyday moments—where honest conversations happen, friendships grow, and everyone has a seat at the table. You'll usually find me sharing coffee downstairs after service, or simply being present in the joys and challenges of life together. I believe the best part of ministry is walking alongside people, and I'm grateful to do that here at the ALC.

I joined ALC over two decades ago in search of an international community in Oslo. Since then, it has become both my home church and a true second home here in Norway.
Over the years, I have been blessed to serve through fellowship, IT support, and Sunday school teaching. While I deeply value the connections I share with the people in this church, my greatest joy is being able to express my commitment to the Lord through this community and as a parent.

I grew up near Ålesund, Norway, attending the local prayer house and state church, with a mom who taught Sunday school and a faith journey that took me through Bible college, churches in Trondheim and Oslo, and even a Baptist congregation in Prague while volunteering with IFES in Czech Republic. When I found ALC around 2016, it took a little while — I was attending other churches too — but by 2018 I knew I had found my church home.
What drew me in, and keeps me here, is the people. ALC brings together believers from all over the world, and that global fellowship is something truly special. I join the Sunday morning Bible study most weeks before the service, which is a wonderful way to share, pray, and arrive at worship already centered. Then the service itself sets the tone for my whole week. And the coffee hour afterward? That's where real community happens — along with the potlucks, cultural celebrations, and special gatherings throughout the year for Thanksgiving, Lent, Easter, and Christmas.
ALC is small enough that you'll actually get to know people, and welcoming enough that you'll want to. It's a place where our differences in background and tradition only make it more beautiful — because what unites us, faith in Christ, is bigger than all of it.

I grew up in Washington state. I moved to Norway in 2002 to be with my boyfriend (now husband) Kjetil. We have been married for 22 years and we have three children. After becoming a mother, it became especially important to me to find a Christian community where we could bring up our children in the faith. Having a place to worship Jesus and enjoy fellowship in the English language has been such a blessing to our family. I always tell friends that coming to ALC feels like being back on American soil-I appreciate the friendly community and traditions such as the pancake breakfast and the Thanksgiving pie service. It's a home away from home.
