Week 7 Mark 14 to Mark 15

February 23, 2020

Summary

The entire Gospel of Mark is being presented in Sunday worship, from

January 12 through March 1. Today’s presentation is the Passion

narrative, the account of Jesus’ suffering and death from Mark chapters

14 and 15. Here are some key passages:

Now, I assure you that wherever the Gospel is preached all over the

world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.

I tell you that one of you will betray me – one who is eating with me.

Take it! This is my body!

This is my blood, which is poured out for many! My blood, which seals

God’s Covenant.

I will never leave you, even though all the rest do.

The sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me. Stay here

and keep watch.

Father, my Father! All things are possible for you! Take this cup of

suffering away from me! Yet not what I want, but what you want.

Weren’t you able to stay awake for even one hour?

I am, and you will all see the Son of Man seated at the right side of

the Almighty and coming with the clouds of heaven!

I swear that I am telling the truth! May God punish me if I am not! I do

not know the man you are talking about!

They shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

My God! My God! Why did you abandon me?

The curtain hanging in the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

This man was really the Son of God!

Then he rolled a large stone across the entrance to the tomb.
