Week 1 Mark 1:1 – Mark 3:6

January 12, 2020

Summary

Hearing the Gospel of Mark

The entire Gospel of Mark will be presented in Sunday worship, beginning
January 12 and ending March 1.

Try to imagine that you don’t know much about Jesus. Maybe you have read
the Bible and heard about Jesus throughout your life. Maybe you haven’t.
Either way, try to imagine that you are hearing the message like the
first believers heard it almost two thousand years ago. A preacher has
come to tell you about Jesus – who he was, what he did, what he taught,
how people reacted to him, what happened to him.

I want to tell you about Jesus. I want you to know him.

Today’s presentation includes Mark 1:1 through Mark 3:6. Here are some
key passages:

This is the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God!

And a voice came from heaven, “You are my own dear Son. I am pleased
with you.”

“The right time has come and the Kingdom of God is near! Turn away from
your sins and believe the Good News!”

“Come with me, and I will teach you to catch people.”

“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you here to destroy
us? I know who you are—you are God’s holy messenger!”

“Everyone is looking for you.”

“If you want to you can make me clean.”

“How does he dare talk like this? This is blasphemy! God is the only
one who can forgive sins!”

“We have never seen anything like this!”

“Why does he eat with such people?”

“What does our Law allow us to do on the Sabbath? To help or to harm? To
save someone’s life or to destroy it?”

And they made plans to kill Jesus.
