Town Hall Meeting regarding the work of the Access Committee On Sunday, March 27th, members of ALC gathered in the Sanctuary after our morning worship service to hear the Access Committee report on their work. Committee members Deborah Kitchen Doderlein and Dick Knutson reported on where the work of the Committee is today.
We heard a thorough desciption of the various options the Access Committee has considered to provide access to our building for those who have mobility challenges with a description of the relative strengths and weaknesses of each option.

Just as our homes need regular maintenance and care, our church home needs that attention, too. The Properties Committee is responsible for organizing the maintenance of our church home. There is a lot to do! Imagine if 100-200 people trekked through the doors of your home - every week. That's what our church home has to handle - indoors and out.
In order to keep our building functional, we need lots of help from all of you. We schedule church workdays (dugnad) in which many hands make light work. There is something for everyone to do - some physically demanding and other light tasks. All are needed and all are valued.
A special project this year is to make the ALC fully accessible. A special committee has chosen a lift and entry door, and we are in the process of arranging the installation now. The goal is to have it ready by the 50th Anniversary celebrations.

All of God's children are welcome in His Kingdom. Our goal is to ensure that all of His children are welcome in the ALC -- and are able to fully participate.
Our special project this year is to make the ALC fully accessible. There are several phases to the project. The ALC was built at a time when there was little awareness of accessibility issues. Earlier many of our members rotated to their home countries as they grew older, or if a serious accident occurred. Now our congregation includes significant numbers of members who build our lives here, so awareness has increased.
A special committee has been working on this for the past year. We have received bids and chosen a lift and a new entry door, and we are in the process of arranging the installation. We hope to install these over the summer, while there are no FIP children on site during construction. The goal is to have these done in time for the 50th Anniversary celebrations.
After these are finished, we plan to build an accessible bathroom. Then we will install a loop amplifier in the sanctuary. |
