HALVORSON, Mrs. SOPHIE GURINE (PETTERSEN) altBorn June 21, 1876, Stavanger, Norway to Tønnes (1849-1933) and Andersdatter Jakobson Pettersen (1853-1924). m. 01af Halvorson, July 12, 1905. Immigrated in 1905. Naturalized at Clifton, Arizona.Died June 16, 1959, Huntington Park, Calif. Both Olaf and Sophie Halvorson gave generously of their time, effort and money for the church and to the cause of Norway.Brothers and sisters: Petra (pettersen) Rohrt (b. 1887);Theodor (b. 1891); Antonie (pettersen) Treu (b. 1894).Grandchildren: 01af Sigurd Morgan Halvorson, Jr. (b. HALVORSON, OLAF Born Aug. 1, 1872, Stavanger, Norway, to Halvor and Serine (Asgautsdatter Nordb~) Halvorson. Grandparents: Halvard Halvardsen Landa and Helga Aslaksdatter
Hagaberget. altImmigrated in 1893. Naturalized at Norway, Ill. m.Sophie Gurine Pettersen July 12, 1905, Stavanger, Norway. Died Aug. 8, 1953, Los Angeles, Calif.Brother and sisters: Enger Caroline (Halvorson) Lund, (1858-09); Helmvik (186101926); Ole (1864-1937).Received Artium degree storms Skole, Stavanger. Taught school around Ottawa, Ill. Studied at Valparaiso D.; A.B. D.of Minn. 1902. Taught school in Arizona; school principal, Clifton, Ariz., high school. Graduate study at D. of Chicago in foreign languages. Moved to Los Angeles in 1912. Became a teacher at McKin1ey high school where he remained until retirement in 1937.Bought land and raised oranges in San Fernando Valley. He and his wife took active interest in Our Savior Luth. Church, in Solheim Home for Aged of which he was president and chief developer, in Peer Gynt Lodge, and Sons of Norway. Played an important part in the Relief for Norway program. For this work he received the Order of St. Olaf; was Pres. of Norwegian AIDer. Hist. Assoc.; was the representative of So. Calif. Nordmanns Forbundet for 30 yrs.Honored by children: Olaf Sigurd Morgan (b. July 1, 1906), chemical engineer; Henry George Homer (b. Apr. 7, 1908) university librarian; Borghild Sophie Serine (b. Mar. 17, 1914).
