Married Gjertrud Busetjerdet, 1872. In 1873 a group of Norwegians traveled for two months by oxen across Minnesota and formed

a settlement by Lake Hendricks, Brookings Co., S.D. Rev. Elling Eielson, the first Norwegian Lutheran pastor in America visited the area in Oct. 1874. They held a meeting

at the home of Nils Troöien and formed the Singsaas congregation.
