Born Oct. 15, 1865, Molde, Norway to Johannes and Anne Bergitte Tanner.
Studied in the Latin and Gymnasium schools, Moldei U. of Oslo, degree in Theology. Ordained Apr. 26, 1893, Trondheim Cathedral by Bishop Skaar.
Married Ingeborg Sophie Aaroe, Apr. 21, 1893 (d. 1935). Immigrated in May, 1893, to Story City, la., where he had been called to St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he served till 1898; then Clermont, la., 1898-1903; Trinity Luth., Brooklyn, 1903-07; Financial Sec. Fairview Hospital, Mpls., 1907-09; pastor, Milnor, N.D., 1913-16. Head of Religion Dept. Concordia Coll., Moorhead, Minn., 1916-29, during this time earned degree Doctor of Sacred Theology, Augustana Lutheran Seminary, Rock Island, Ill.; editor of "Lutheraneren" one yr. at Augsburg Pub. House; prof. at Luther Sem., 1925-38; teacher of Bible, Waldorf Coll., Forest City, la., 1943 until his retirement at age 97. For 50 yrs. he spent each summer at his cottage near Camp Nidaros on Ottertail Lake, Fergus Falls, Minn. Died Jan. 25, 1964, at age 98. Author of: "Manual of Bible Teachings"; "The Thousand Years not pre-millennial"; "Ten Studies in Church Doctrine"; "The Junior Confirmation Book" and "The Senior Confirmation Book"; "Atonement and Forgiveness"; "Exploring God's Word";
and many pamphlets, religious articles, etc.

Children: A daughter died in infancy; four sons, Olav, engineer; Arvid, lawyer; Idar, pastor; all of whom have passed away (1966). Agnar (m. Magda Torkelson, 1924), Luth. pastor, Assoc. Dir. of P.T.R.
(Preaching, Teaching, Reaching) in Comm. on Evangelism of the A.L.C. Has also been on preaching missions to Norway. He has four daughters.
