Born Mar. 7, 1865, Roldal, Norway, to Knut and Margit Bratteig. The family immigrated in 1878, to Dunbar, Ia.
She began at an early age to work as a maid for families in Marshalltown, Ia.,
and later became a seamstress in a tailor shop there. Married Gunder O. Seim, Dec. 24, 1890.


They lived on a farm near Dunbar, Ia., 13 years. In 1903 they moved to a farm SW of Marshalltown, la. In 1916 the family moved to Grand Meadow, Minn., and in 1920 to a farm only a mile from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. Three sons and a daughter were graduated from St Olaf College. In 1944 the family moved into Northfield, and Mr. Seim died soon after. The mother and Carl continued to live in the family home. She died Feb. 17, 1960, age 94. Interment at Northfield.

Children - Oliver, Lutheran Pastor; Creston, Ill.; Carl, Northfield, Harry, Spring Valley, Minn.; Marvin, Grand Meadow, Minn.; Ella, Minneapolis.
