Rev. OLAF MORTEN SAEVIG
Born July 31, 1849, Trebostad gaard, Namdalseidet, Nord Trønderlag, Norway to Morten Johnsen and Petronelle (Lie) Romo. When he was a boy they moved to the Saevig gaard. He was the oldest of three children. At age 18 he became a student at the Seminary in Trondheim; was graduated at 20. He planned to teach and save money to further his education at the University or Oslo. He taught four years at Namson, and then immigratedto Lanesboro, Minn., where his parents had previously settled. He planned to return to Norway but his mother persuaded him to stay. He taught parochial school at Rushford El.nd Lanesboro. Entered Luther College, 1876; entered Luther Seminary, Madison, Wis., 1877; ordained 1880 by Dr. H.G. Stub, president of the Seminary and of the Synod. Married Augusta Stokke, 1880 (d. 1886)
Children: Ingeborg; ClaIa (m.. Jens Molvig), Buxton, N.D.; Agnes, Minneapolis; August, New Brighton, Minn. m. Angeline Nelson, 1892 (d. 1944), of Argyle, Wis. Children: Gerhard, a war veteran (d. 1921) i Alf (d. at age 11); Nora (m. Rev. Leander B. Brakke), Westbrook, Hinn.; Esther (m. F.N. Grose) Clarissa, Minn.; Alfa (m. L.V.Dubbs) Milbank, S.D. Died May 28, 1931, age 81, at Rushford, Minn.
Parishes served during his 42 years in the ministry: Asst. at Koshkonong, Wis., one of the oldest Norwegian parishes in America; Hiota, Wis., 1883-1902, and East Wiota, West Wiota, Jordan, Yellowstone, Apple Grove, and Hollanddale; West Duluth, Minn., 1904-06; Whalen and Peterson, Minn., 1911-22.
