MARTIN K. NYGAARD,
Born Oct.5, 1868, Stavanger,

Norway to Mr. and Mrs. Knute Hommersand. Immigrated in 1889 to

Toronto, S.D. Married Carrie Erickson, June 26, 1897, Fairfax, Minn. Died Dec. 3, 1947, Astoria, S.D.

As a boy in Norway he was very poor. His parents died when he was a small boy. He picked berries in the mountains and sold them for a few pennies.

On June 26, 1947 the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Martin died that same year, age 79.

Siblings: Andrew, Gabriel; Christ; Gustave; Peter; Torene.

Cal.; Comfort (m. Arthur Schwartz), St. Peter, Minni; Lydia (m. Airlo Zahnow), Kennewick, Wash.; Norval, New

Castle, Wyo.; Stella (m. Harry Winge), Fairfax, Minn.; Bernie, Astoria, S.D.; Olga (m. A.C. Tate), San Jose, Cal.; Morris, Fairfax, Minn. 24 Grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren (1960)


Honored by children: Norval, Morris, and Bernie, and Mmes. Sater, Schwartz, Zahnow, Langendorf, Winge, Tate.
