Mrs. LIZZIE SKøIEN NELSON

Born Nov. 26, 1869, Lunner, Hadeland, Norway, to Anders and Randi (Daehlin) Skøien. At age 16 she immigrated, a lone immigrant girl, and learned the language and prepared to teach by attending Augustana College, Canton, S.D. For seven years she taught, at Beloit Orphans 'Home, in Sterling Twp.,

near Brookings, S.D. m. Geo. G. Nelson, druggist at Volga, S.D., 1901. When her husband died in 1911, with her three children she moved to Brookings, where there were opportunities for college. She planned and built a student's rooming and boarding house, which was known as the "Nelson House" from 1914 to 1937. Died June 8, 1952.
