MIDTGAARD, AMUND Born Apr. 1, 1872, Maaløy, Nordfjord, Norway.  Immigrated in 1891, to Gayville, N.D.; employed on railroad. Then in 1892, to Fertile, Ia., on a 40-acre farm.midtgaard_amund_and_martha_madsen_midtgaard_sm
 He did carpenter work for 10 yrs. Married Martha Madsen, from Hoddevik, Nordfjord, Dec. 21, 1893.
 They lived 60 yrs. on the same farm. He visited Norway in 1909, and he and his wife visited Norway in 1931.
 Died Feb. 26, 1959; she died Feb. 20, 1956.
Children: Laura (m. Louis Severson, farmer) Joice, Ia.;
Tillie, (m. Otis Nyhus, farmer) Forest City, Ia.;
 Anna (m Norman Storre, farmer), Kensett, Ia.; Melvin, farmer, Fertile, Ia.
Eight grandchildren: Arden, Harold, and Norman Nyhus;
 Elaine Siverson Patten; Donald Severson; Kenneth; Maynard; Marian.
Seventeen great grandchildren (1962).
