Pastor Nestor Joel Rova-Hegener describes himself as an experienced and deeply caring pastor who leads with passion, by listening to and walking with the people of the church. He seeks to help people to discern Jesus’ call to live out his love in their lives and the world. He shares the Gospel through preaching, teaching, and building up Christ’s body.

Spouse and Family
Pastor’s wife Emily Gratia Rova-Hegener is also an ordained pastor. Emily describes herself as a passionate, caring, mission-minded pastor who is able to listen and provide leadership to a congregation discerning its call to live out Christ’s love as individuals and community. Emily is deeply invested and has a calling in connecting our stories to God’s greater story in our lives, helping others to discover their gifts and talents, and encouraging people to grow in faith and serve others in the world. Emily has a Masters of Divinity (1999) from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN. Her fields of interest are Spiritual Formation and Direction, Faith Formation in Families, Stewardship of Time, Talents and Financial Resources, Outdoors and Camping Ministry, and Health & Wellness issues.
They have been happily married for 15 years and have two (boys) children.
They both have 14 years of experience as pastors and come with varying gifts. Their gifts, pastoral styles and personalities are complementary which helps make their ministry balanced and comprehensive. They served as co-pastors at United in Christ Lutheran Church, in Eveleth, Minnesota from 2006. Before that they were co-pastors at Silverdale Lutheran Church in Silverdale, Washington, for three years.
Church Office Secretary
Rie Melhoos has been with The American Lutheran Congregation since 1991 when she moved to Norway from her native country Japan with her American husband. She was later baptized at the ALC in September 1995, and so the ALC is her mother church. She was installed as Church Office Secretary in 2005 and is responsible for day-to-day church office operations and assisting the Pastor. When Rie is not at the ALC, she has her own food blog called Rie’s Bento and cooking blog. Bradley Staubes has been Music Minister at ALC since May 2010. A highly experienced organist, pianist, singer and cellist, as well as conductor and composer, Brad is a busy musician around Oslo. As an organist he has played Christmas Eve services at Vestre Aker kirke (televised) and Ullern kirke. He has also accompanied the Pergolesi Stabat Mater at both ALC and Skøyen kirke, played for Lier kammerkor at Bragernes kirke in Drammen, and played weddings and funerals at dozens of Oslo churches and chapels. A classically trained baritone, Brad has sung as both soloist and chorister with the Oslo filharmoniske kor and the Vestre Aker kammerkor, and he also plays cello with the Oslo kammerorkester.
Bradley moved to Oslo from New York City in 2008. In New York he performed as a professional chorister at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, sang as soloist and chorister at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral and Church of the Holy Family (the United Nations Parish), conducted and accompanied the Cabrini Singers for 18 years, and was Music Director for Immaculate Conception Parish in the Bronx, and St. Anthony in Yonkers. He played leading roles with the Village Light Opera Group and in off-off Broadway musicals and Equity Showcases. His choral compositions have been heard all over the New York area, and even as far away as the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, and St. Peter’s in Rome. Raised in McLean, Virginia, Bradley graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1985. As a young adult he was frequently seen on national TV as song-leader and chorister at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC, and during that period also sang with the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center, the Wolf Trap Opera, and other local opera and musical theater companies.
